Understanding and assessing flood risk
Will the LPA consult the Environment Agency and Lead Local Flood Authority for advice?
Your LPA will need to check Standing advice for local planning authorities1 to find out if they need to consult the Environment Agency and Lead Local Flood Authority for advice on your application.
If consultation with the Environment Agency or Lead Local Flood Authority will be needed, you should consider asking them for pre-application advice. You can request advice from the Environment Agency using this pre-planning application2 enquiry form (preliminary opinion).
There is a charge for more detailed pre-application planning advice such as reviews of draft FRAs and flood risk modelling. You can find out more about this service in the Environment Agency’s Planning and marine licence advice: standard terms for our charges3.
