This Marine Policy Statement (MPS) is the framework for preparing Marine Plans and taking decisions affecting the marine environment. The Marine Policy Statement will contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in the United Kingdom marine area.

It has been prepared and adopted for the purposes of section 44 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009.

The Guidance to the UK Marine Policy Statement from 1 January 2020 explains how references to EU law in the UK MPS should be interpreted from 1 January 2021 following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
