Retrofitting
What are the different approaches to retrofitting?
There are different strategies for retrofitting. Depending on the type of building, a particular method may be preferable.
Fabric first
Fabric first works by ensuring the building retains as much heat as possible, thereby increasing its energy efficiency. This means insulating the house and making it as airtight as possible. A fabric first approach will focus on proper insulation, draught-proofing and ventilation.
Whole house
Whole house is a longer-term approach to retrofitting. This approach ensures that upgrades to the home are complimentary and allow for future updates to be carried out when necessary. This approach is likely to cover major works and changes which involve moving towards sustainable energy generation and consumption.
