What is a building control body?

A building control body (BCB) checks that any building work carried out meets the standards set in the building regulations.

There are two types of building control body:

Local authority: Apply for approval from your council.

Registered building control approver: Apply through a private registered building control approver. They will notify your local authority about the work. This is called giving an ‘initial notice’.
